What this paper is about

Edit What this paper is about Content
This paper is designed to move students beyond traditional, direct understandings of coaching and instruction towards athlete-centred approaches to coaching. The paper provides opportunities for 'theories in action' by developing an applied understanding of learner-centred coaching strategies. Students will explore practice design and intentional strategies for athlete learning in coaching. Finally, the paper includes opportunities for students to consider the potential facilitators and barriers for effective use of these pedagogical practices.

Edit How this paper will be taught Content

Classes will be highly interactive, discussion based, and applied. Whilst there will be elements of lecture style delivery to scaffold learning, the majority of the work will be led by debate, discussion and coaching practice.

There is an expectation that all students will coach their peers throughout the paper on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. It is essential that you attend the practical workshops as assessments are structured around these experiences as either coach, participant, or observer in peer learning sets.

Lecture notes and any relevant recorded materials will be uploaded to the SDCOA203 Moodle page.

Workshops will not be recorded and should be attended unless there is illness or extenuating circumstances that preclude engagement.

*NB - please ensure you are dressed appropriately to lead and participate in coaching sessions.
